SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 15th May –

The Government of Tenerife will allocate 12.5 million euros from the Active Housing Program to purchase a total of 227 properties across the island for social rental purposes. Additionally, an agreement will be signed between the Government, the City Council of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, and the Government of the Canary Islands to carry out renovations and improve energy efficiency in 432 homes in Barrio de Añaza II and Los Gladiolos IV. The Council’s contribution to this partnership amounts to 1.1 million euros.

This announcement was made by the Vice President of the insular Corporation, Lope Afonso, and the Second Vice President, José Miguel Ruano, during a press conference where they explained the decisions taken at the Government Council meeting held on Wednesday.

Furthermore, the Government Council approved the project contract for the construction of direct lanes to the Güímar Industrial Estate with a budget of 3.7 million euros. This project will involve modifying existing lanes and building two new direct links to the Industrial Estate. The plan includes the construction of several direct lanes in the roundabouts of the Arafo interchange.

In line with this, the Government Council also gave the green light to a collaboration agreement between the Government and the municipalities of Güímar, Arafo, and Candelaria to implement a program of immediate actions in the Valle de Güímar industrial estate. The aim of this agreement is to undertake actions to improve the current state of this industrial estate, with an estimated budget of 1.5 million euros.

Additionally, the Government Council approved the commissioning of the public company Gesplan to manage Clean Points, Mini Clean Points, and Waste Awareness Initiatives with a budget of approximately 5.7 million euros over a period of one year and eight months.

Within the realm of Innovation, Research, and Development, the Government Council sanctioned the tender for a contract to supply licenses and deploy a computer application for simulating and analysing forest fires and managing incidents, with a budget of 688,866 euros and a three-year execution period.

As for Social Action, the Government Council approved the contract for transportation services for individuals attending the Valle Colino Occupational Center, with a budget of 354,604.84 euros. This transportation service will commence on 1st June 2024, with a duration of two years, extendable up to five years to facilitate user access to the centre.

OTHER ARRANGEMENTS

Under the purview of Employment and Education, the Government Council approved the tender for the ‘Quédate’ project with a budget exceeding 114,000 euros. The ‘Quédate’ project is a pivotal initiative aimed at fostering harmonious coexistence in both the academic and family environments, within Compulsory Education Centres. Its core mission is to promote the personal and social development of adolescents, encouraging their active participation.

Additionally, the Government Council endorsed the project file for revitalising the Insular Program for Ecological School Gardens with a budget exceeding 119,000 euros. The Insular Program for Ecological School Gardens is designed as a comprehensive initiative that utilises the school garden as an educational tool to enhance skills and knowledge at all academic levels, from preschool to secondary school.

Concerning the Primary Sector, the Government Council approved a collaborative agreement with the Tenerife AR TF Rural Action Group Association as part of the participatory local development strategy outlined in the LEADER intervention of the CAP 2023 Strategic Plan. The Government is providing a subsidy of 450,000 euros to this association, which will be distributed between 2024 and 2027.

In the domain of Historical Heritage, a grant of 401,909.04 euros was sanctioned for the partial restoration of the roofs of the Convent of Santa Clara (Las Clarisas).
