SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 14th May. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The IAC Institute of Contemporary Art, MAV Women in the Visual Arts, the UNIÓN_AC Union of Contemporary Artists of Spain, and AICAV Canary Islands Association of Visual Artists have penned a letter to the Minister of Culture of the Cabildo of Tenerife, José Carlos Acha, distancing themselves from the election process of the new leadership at Tenerife Espacio de las Artes (TEA) and urging the annulment of the process.
In a communication addressed to the media, IAC and AICAV – the other two associations were not invited – have rejected the Cabildo’s offer to participate in the competition as ‘observers’ due to its contested nature and the lack of response to their raised concerns.
They believe that the convoking entity should assess the appeal filed and subsequently declare the invalidation of the disputed call, issuing a new call that complies with the current legislation, as outlined in the challenge document.
Expressing their “surprise” at the exclusion of MAV Mujeres en las Artes Visuales, and the UNIÓN_AC Union of Contemporary Artists of Spain, the four groups emphasize that they lodged an appeal on 8th March requesting a new resolution and guidelines for the call with “clear and objective” evaluation criteria.
“We are of the opinion that this invitation does not address the appeal filed because the law stipulates that the individuals forming the panel must be identified, also as individuals, as the Administrative Procedure Law mandates the recusal or abstention of those with a personal interest. This can also be refuted by those in attendance who highlight an individual in the panel who is a clear adversary or a close acquaintance,” they explain.
