When thinking about ascending to the Teide National Park, the first thing many grab is warm clothing, as at those altitudes the temperature tends to drop compared to sea level. However, some prefer to make the climb in their birthday suits.
Two French-speaking men decided to reach the Teide crater without clothes, holding up a banner in defence of “naturalism”. One of them was Bruno Saurez, who posted on his Facebook profile photos depicting their journey and a picture at the summit.
They did this on April 4th, starting near the La Ruleta Viewpoint, close to the Roques de García. Setting off at 1:30 pm, they reached the cable car station at 6:15 pm, taking the last one to the crater.

The descent became challenging as “our headlamp failed” and the temperature dropped by “15 degrees in sensation”. An ascent to the Teide peak is increasingly monitored, requiring a permit for access.

This permit is mandatory and obtained online. Given the unfortunate incidents that tend to happen in the Teide National Park, access to such an iconic area has been regulated, as it is at risk of being mistreated by those unaware of the responsibilities that come with being in such a place.
