SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 13th May. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The GARA Student Assembly has announced a general assembly scheduled for Tuesday at 12:00 p.m. on the Guajara Campus of the University of La Laguna (ULL) in protest against the atrocities in Gaza and the infiltration of Zionism within the university.
This appeal aligns with the student movement initiated in the United States urging the student body of the University of La Laguna to stand in solidarity with the Palestinian community, as highlighted by the group in a press release.
“The Palestinian people are enduring relentless suffering, having endured it for 75 years since Israel forcibly entered Palestinian lands, leading to the displacement of over half a million Palestinians from their homes. Despite the Security Council outlining the principles for a fair and enduring peace, mandating Israel to withdraw,” they emphasised.
They further highlight that starting from October 7, Israel has been engaged in an “extensive genocide” resulting in over 30,000 casualties and 7,000 individuals missing, with a recent assault in Rafah over the weekend claiming the lives of 120 people and displacing 110,000 individuals.
“We call upon the Government to sever diplomatic ties and prohibit the sale of arms to an illegitimate state that employs them in ongoing genocidal acts. We also urge universities nationwide to cease any connections and collaborations with the state of Israel,” they elaborated.
Furthermore, the students condemn the collaboration of European and American entities with the “genocidal” actions against the Palestinian populace, sparking off a “robust wave” of protests in numerous universities globally.
