SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 12th May. (EUROPA PRESS) –

A project led by the Provincial Federation of Metal Entrepreneurs and New Technologies of Santa Cruz de Tenerife (Femete) has been supported by The Cabildo of Tenerife, specifically through the Industry department, to provide guidance to industrial companies on the island in the realm of environmental management.

The Minister of Industry, Manuel Fernández, highlighted that the primary goal of this endeavour is to deliver comprehensive environmental consultancy services to foster an ‘eco-friendly industry’ on Tenerife, “aligning with a strategy that prioritises economic, environmental, and social sustainability,” he remarked.

The financing for this project amounts to 30,000 euros, covering advice on waste management, circularity, pollution prevention, industrial emissions, energy efficiency, and renewable energies, among other topics. In this context, the minister underlined that the aim is to “raise awareness about the critical role of actively caring for the environment while also balancing this aspect with the economic activity generated by the industry on our island.”

The specific goals of this project include conducting an assessment of environmental practices and identifying key areas for improvement within industrial companies, facilitating the adoption of best practices in this field, promoting a culture of sustainability within industrial sectors, managing open data to enhance transparency, and forming partnerships between FEMETE, participating companies, and the public sector to broaden the reach and impact of such initiatives.

Manuel Fernández concluded by noting that, for the first time in the Institution’s history, The Cabildo has a dedicated Industry department with its own budget, enabling support for initiatives like this that aim to boost industrial activity as an economic driver on our island, all while adhering to sustainability standards.
