Daniela García: The Leading Lady of the May Festival in Los Realejos

Daniela García Rodríguez, on behalf of the Festivities Commission of El Horno, was crowned last Saturday as the Romera Mayor of the May Festivities in Los Realejos, after a gala held in Plaza Viera y Clavijo.

Apart from Daniela García Rodríguez, the gala featured another 11 candidates for the title, representing various social, cultural, and neighbourhood entities in the municipality: Danna Indira Delgado Báez (Neighbourhood Association La Barca de Toscal Longuera); Alicia Dóniz Albelo (Cultural and Recreational Association Los Cochineros de Icod el Alto); Idoia García Hernández (Neighbourhood Association Santa Marta de Toscas de Romero); Elena Hernández Hernández (Neighbourhood Association Campo Verde de La Ferruja); Andrea Pérez Socas (Viera y Clavijo Society); Sara Domínguez González (Neighbourhood Association Viera y Clavijo de Cruz del Peral); Evelyn Dóniz Siverio (Cruz Santa Casino Society); Andrea Delgado González (Neighbourhood Association Buenos Vecinos de San Benito); Valeria Linares Rodríguez (Neighbourhood Association Tigotán de Tigaiga); Miriam Hernández Lorenzo (Cultural Association of Carnival Nira); and Nayara Fariña González (Neighbourhood Association Dos Palmeras de Realejo Bajo).

The gala, presented as a theatrical-musical spectacle under the title Exodus, paid tribute – under the direction of Kiryl Pérez and musical direction of Samuel Fumero and his company Sentimos Mayo – to the Canarian ancestors who had to emigrate to Venezuelan lands, creating bonds that remain in our culture, with outstanding performances by actors Silvia Criado, Daniel Tejera and Álvaro Hernández Díaz, and the dance group Yacambú.

The municipality of Los Realejos continues, in this manner, with its extensive festive programme dedicated to popular traditions. The agenda will proceed on the upcoming Saturday, 18th of May, with the traditional Magos Dance. Following that, on Sunday, 26th of May, the traditional Pilgrimage in honour of San Isidro Labrador and Santa María de la Cabeza will take place. Another significant event will be the XLIX Islands Festival on Saturday, 25th, featuring the participation of eight folkloric groups.
