SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 10th May. (EUROPA PRESS) –
Heading the Assembly of mayors from Spain’s Group of World Heritage Cities in Ibiza this Saturday is Luis Yeray Gutiérrez, the mayor of La Laguna. After overseeing the 15 UNESCO-recognized cities for a year and a half, this will be the final Assembly steered by Luis Yeray Gutiérrez, even though his current term will continue until 30th June.
Towards the end of April, Luis Yeray Gutiérrez had a meeting with the mayor of Santiago de Compostela, Goretti Sanmartín, and other members of the Municipal Corporation to facilitate the handover of the presidency of the Group, which will be taken over by the Galician capital from 1st July. The meeting occurred at the Pazo de Raxoi, where the mayor added his name to the city’s book of honour.
The convening of this Assembly aligns with the 25th anniversary of Ibiza’s inclusion on the World Heritage list. This milestone coincides with the Medieval Festival, attracting numerous visitors and tourists to the Renaissance architectural ensemble of Dalt Vila.
Under the leadership of Luis Yeray Gutiérrez, the Executive Committee and General Assembly will foster cultural and athletic events in the commemoration of the Group’s 30th anniversary this year. Additionally, new international tourism promotion endeavours will be undertaken as part of the Group’s Operational Plan until 2024.
Following the Executive Commission meeting on Friday, chaired by Luis Yeray Gutiérrez, the mayors will convene for the General Assembly at the Museum of Contemporary Art of Ibiza, following the customary official group photo at the Baluarte de Santa Lucía.
