SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 9th May. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Noble Hall of the Cabildo de Tenerife was the venue today for the reading of a statement in honour of World Fibromyalgia Day, which falls on Sunday, 12th May. Present at the event were Lope Afonso, the Vice President of the Cabildo, Águeda Fumero, the Minister of Social Action, and other members of the insular Corporation, alongside a significant number of individuals from Afiten (Tenerife Fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue Association).

Candelaria Hernández, the President of Afiten, proceeded to read the statement with the purpose of “bringing visibility to this illness and the individuals who are afflicted by it, numbering over 80,000 in the Canary Islands.” The statement highlighted Afiten’s journey since its establishment in 2003, during which they have adopted a comprehensive approach involving various healthcare professionals to address the illness and, in turn, enhance the quality of life and psychosocial well-being of those affected.

Following the reading of the manifesto, the Minister of Social Action, Águeda Fumero, took the floor to affirm “the Cabildo of Tenerife’s dedication to the citizens, and particularly, to the endeavour of ensuring equal opportunities for all individuals.” Fumero emphasised that this institution shares the objectives set by Afiten, which are centred on advancing research as a means to enhance the lives of individuals impacted by fibromyalgia.”
