The Government Council of the Tenerife Island Council agreed yesterday to allocate €3.1 million to support livestock farms affected by the forest fire last summer that devastated nearly 15,000 hectares in twelve municipalities.

An extraordinary amount of €650,000 is included in the Strategic Subsidy Plan for this second round of aid, following the emergency ones, which are being used for livestock feed to cover the expenses generated by the rise in prices of raw materials and supplies, as well as the effects of the fire. The total amounts to €3,150,000. This was explained by the President of the Council, Rosa Dávila, and the Vice President, Lope Afonso, while discussing the matters addressed.

This financial injection is intended for farms on the Island that have species of sheep, goats, cattle, pigs, rabbits, and poultry that suffered significant damages.

Within the Primary Sector area, the bases and the call for an aid package were also approved, with an amount of €250,800, for the establishment of agroecological practices to minimize the damages caused by the Guatemalan moth pest affecting the potato harvest and to improve the quality of crop soils. Additionally, €99,700 is being allocated to Gesplan for the control and eradication of invasive exotic species of flora, particularly in the Southwest region, within a six-month period.
