SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 7th May. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The port of Santa Cruz de Tenerife showed improvements of 2.3% in passenger traffic, with 766,159 passengers registered, and 5.2% in general merchandise, with a total of 1.7 million tons in the first quarter of the year.
Out of the total passenger traffic, 412,517 were passengers in transport regime, marking a 5.7% increase from January to March 2023. Among these, 364,710 were residents in the Canary Islands, while 47,807 were non-residents.
The number of vehicles for passenger transport saw a 6.85% increase, totaling 163,657 vehicles in the first quarter. In March alone, there were 61,190 vehicles registered, showing an 11.08% growth compared to the previous year.
With regards to cruise passengers, 343,397 were registered in the port of Santa Cruz during 107 stops, with four main shipping companies moving 91% of them. These companies were AidaCruises, Carnival Cruises, TUI Travel-Thomson-Royal Caribbean Group, and Marella Cruises Limited.
On the merchandise movement side, the port of Santa Cruz de Tenerife saw a significant growth with close to three million tons transported, 1.7 million of which was general merchandise, showing an increase of 91,340 tons compared to the same period in 2023.
Liquid bulk transportation experienced a positive growth of 7.17%, with 933 thousand tons, while solid bulk saw a decrease of -1.60%, with 77,156 tons, 1,253 tons less than the previous year.
The number of merchant vessels continued to rise, with a cumulative increase of 2.49%, totaling 2,016 vessels, out of which 704 were in March.
