Save La Tejita Platform is actively calling on the Government of the Canary Islands to immediately revoke the authorization granted for the construction of a hotel near La Tejita beach in Granadilla. The basis for this request lies in the failure of the developer to present a municipal license for discharging wastewater into the sea, or to connect to the general sanitation network. Additionally, the authorization granted by the City Council on 17th January 2019 has exceeded its validity.
In an open letter addressed to the Canary Islands President, Fernando Clavijo, the platform highlights the Executive’s non-compliance with monitoring duties regarding this authorization. The platform asserts that revoking the authorization is now imperative to uphold regulatory standards.
The platform further questions the developer’s potential entitlement to compensation should the authorization be revoked, given their failure to provide the required municipal discharge license for wastewater.
To initiate discussions and explore resolutions, the platform cordially invites Clavijo to visit the La Tejita construction site. During the visit, they aim to elucidate the existing challenges, particularly concerning wastewater management irregularities.
With a sense of urgency, the platform advises against delay, citing the developer’s rapid excavation activities encroaching on approximately 80 square meters of public land daily. Time is of the essence to preserve the remaining unique protected land on the island, as outlined in the letter.
