GRANADILLA (TENERIFE), 2nd May. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Mayor of Granadilla, Jennifer Miranda (PSOE), made it known on Thursday that she will not participate in the meeting scheduled for tomorrow, Friday, with the Premier of the Government, Fernando Clavijo, alongside the President of the Tenerife Cabildo, Rosa Dávila, and the mayors of Adeje and Granadilla to assess the tourism projects of ‘Cuna del Alma’ and La Tejita.
During a press briefing in the vicinity where a hotel construction is being promoted, she criticised the Premier for launching a “political facelift” operation to shift attention away from the Government and direct it towards institutions governed by the PSOE, given that, for instance, the Arona City Council has not been summoned, despite recently approving a partial plan and urban planning agreement incorporating the construction of several hotels.
Miranda has reiterated that the aim is to “seek solutions” and as soon as she sees that “all” public administrations are in agreement to oppose the hotel’s construction, she believes that the hotel plot, owned by the Viqueira Group and costing 25 million, must be acquired “as soon as possible”.
The Mayor has emphasised her commitment to “re-naturalize” the area and connect it to the protected space of the Red Mountain Reserve. In this regard, she has urged the Government to review the entire prior authorisation process for the City Council to revoke the license, as failure to do so could lead to potential compensation.
Nonetheless, she highlighted that the City Council demands a specific meeting focused on La Tejita, rather than one that is entwined with projects from other municipalities. She also stressed that all that is needed is political will, as the company is willing to sell and the previous Canary Islands Government even initiated the purchase process and allocated funds within the regional budgets – a fact previously denied by the Department of Ecological Transition.
Regarding the acquisition of necessary financial resources, the Mayor gave an example that the Motor Circuit planned by the Cabildo in the municipality costs nearly twice as much as the La Tejita plot.
