The judiciary has given a second chance to a couple from Ingenio by freeing them from a debt of 125,000 euros. The specialised company Canarias Sin Deuda managed the procedure with the Second Chance Law, which concluded with the complete cancellation of the burdens they had with various creditors.
The debt problems of E.M.G. and F.R.P. date back more than a decade, when they tried to carry on with a business that they ultimately had to close. Despite E.M.G.’s efforts to turn the situation around and support his family, balancing two jobs, the income was always insufficient to meet the credit payments, causing the debts to increase.
EMG, with a daughter in his care and his disabled wife, experienced job instability for years, and has been unemployed since February 2022. The couple was left with only a total disability benefit for the wife, which led them to declare insolvency, resort to bankruptcy law, and the Second Chance Law to move forward.
The lawyer and territorial manager of Canarias Sin Deuda, Samuel Diaz, explains that “For a long time, the limited economic resources of this couple were entirely devoted to basic expenses and the care of their daughter, while debts accumulated without being able to face them as their incomes were insufficient. Unemployed and with the total disability benefit as their only recurring income, they were forced to avail themselves of the Second Chance Law.”
Since 2015, this Law allows individuals and self-employed individuals to get rid of their debts, as long as they meet the minimum requirements set. Therefore, the law firm Canarias Sin Deuda has successfully processed the process that has allowed these residents of Ingenio in Las Palmas to rid themselves of a debt of 125,000 euros.
