Popular singer Falete and actress Bibiana Fernández will be the main guests on the jury that will determine the winner among the seven finalists of the 13th Young Designers Contest to be held on June 6th at the Recinto Ferial. The event will mark the beginning of the International Fashion Fair of Tenerife which will run for four days, from Thursday to Sunday, organized by Cabildo.

The Tenerife Moda program is finalizing the details of an edition that features seven finalist collections. These are proposals coming from Colombia, Mexico, Vitoria, Guadalajara, La Gomera, and the island itself. They will showcase their designs before a jury composed of relevant personalities from the world of fashion, beauty, business, entertainment, media, and sports.

Standing out as the special godmother is also model Bibiana Fernández. Alongside Falete, other celebrities part of the jury panel include actor and model Iván Sánchez, as well as journalist and director of TVE’s Flash Moda program, Jesús María Montes-Fernández.

The Employment councillor, Efraín Medina, highlights that “this year the competition will feature high-level guests who will help promote and showcase the talent of young designers.” He also appreciates “the work of the Tenerife International Fashion Fair, which has established itself as a great launching platform for the new promises in the world of design.”

On the other hand, the popular flamenco and copla singer, Falete, born into a lineage of Sevillian artists, with his unique fusion of styles under his powerful voice has managed to impress both music critics and the general public. As for Spanish actor and model Iván Sánchez, known for his role in the series Hospital Central, he returned to the small screen last year as a contestant on Masterchef Celebrity and then portrayed singer Miguel Bosé in the Telecinco series Bosé.

Specialized journalist Jesús María Montes-Fernández completes the invited jury panel. The renowned communicator, National Fashion Award winner, has just celebrated 30 years of professional career. An audiovisual career in fashion on Spanish television programs, including the current Flash Moda, hosted by Nieves Álvarez. Five recognized personalities who will join the rest of the already designated jury members, a plethora of local experts in the sector from the design and media perspective.

Talent and Excellence

The 13th edition of the Tenerife Young Designers Contest represents a meeting with new design talents with which the International Fashion Fair will kick off. This time, seven finalists, selected from a total of 65 applicants from various parts of the world, will have the opportunity to showcase their collections on the catwalk.

The chosen ones to compete for the award are David Pérez Martínez (Guadalajara) with the Blossom XXYYZZ collection; Eva Gómez Martínez (Vitoria) with Anti-Cosmos; Leonardo Mena (Mexico) with the Zoo Ilógico proposal; Alejandro Niño (Colombia) presenting ‘Coffee’; Diego Barroso (La Gomera) who opts for Glorius; Michelle Abad Hernández, Andrea Rodríguez Pérez and Alejandro Pérez, under the Ama Studio brand (Tenerife) competing with Cybermorphosis and Nazaret Quesada Pineda (Tenerife) with La Malquerida.

Efraín Medina highlights the quality and creativity of the presented proposals and mentioned that the Fashion Week returns with its most international character from the 6th to the 9th of June with the aim of making Tenerife “the epicentre of Atlantic trends”.

The International Young Designers Competition in Tenerife goes beyond the spectacle of showcasing the designs on the catwalk, as it represents a business opportunity for these creators who seek in fashion their means of entrepreneurship, as has happened with previous winners, many of whom already have their own brand or work for major sector brands. Therefore, the Caja Negra of the Recinto Ferial will once again be the chosen space to present the budding collections, avant-garde fashion that will parade under a carefully curated setting.

Renowned Venezuelan designers Eduardo and Enzo Koii will also be part of the jury for the upcoming fashion event. They will stay for a few days as special guests at the Tenerife Fashion Fair from 6th to 9th June at the Recinto Ferial de la capital. The brand, known for dazzling the world with its spectacular designs for official Miss Venezuela events, will showcase their haute couture collection on the 8th day of the fashion shows.

The Koii brand started gaining recognition after dressing Miss Venezuela International 2019, Melissa Jiménez, who won the Best Costume award during the final held in Tokyo, Japan that same year. Since then, their elegant, glamorous, and spectacular dresses have been worn by numerous international beauty queens and celebrities. Last year, they also dressed the young Andrea Rubio in the signature designs, helping Venezuela win the Miss International 2023 crown.

Efraín Medina is excited to have this prestigious bridal and evening wear fashion brand from Tenerife. “For the first time in Spain, this globally renowned brand known for elegance and grandeur will grace the Caja Negra stage, which is also returning to the Recinto Ferial to add more splendour to the four days of runway shows.” Medina revealed plans to utilise the visit of the Venezuelan designers, who have over 600,000 followers on social media, for a photoshoot with their creations, “which will also help promote the island as an ideal destination for audiovisual productions.” This initiative aligns with the support for local talent promoted by the Cabildo through the Tenerife Moda Photography Contest.
