A novel parking facility is set to emerge in The Lagoon in line with one of the overarching goals of the current civic authorities: escalating the tally of available parking slots to meet the “considerable demand” conveyed.

The La Laguna City Council, under the Works and Infrastructure Department, has initiated the revamping endeavour on a previously unused piece of land in the vicinity of El Cardonal and Los Andenes to designate it for vehicular parking purposes. The forthcoming premises will accommodate around one hundred cars, with plans afoot to incorporate a green space nearby.

“There has been a surge in requests for augmented parking options within the municipality since the last term; hence, our prime objective since inception has been scouting for sites to renovate and consistently addressing citizen needs through measures enhancing their day-to-day wellbeing,” divulges Mayor Luis Yeray Gutiérrez.

The Mayor expounds that this undertaking extends beyond parking provisions, with an additional scheme slated to broaden the sidewalks adjoining CEIP Cardonal I, thereby heightening the safety of students, family members, locals, and area residents,” the Mayor concludes.

Conversely, Works Councillor Ángel Chinea elucidates that the land intervention encompasses more than just the parking lot; “plans are underway to construct a perimeter wall to preclude potential landslides.” Moreover, the Councillor accentuates the comprehensive revamp of the parking vicinity on Avenida de Vallehermoso, “where a fresh halting area will materialize next to the school, creating a section for the widely known ‘Kiss and Ride,’ thus curtailing congestion during peak student ingress and egress times,” as affirmed by the Mayor.
