The mayor of Santa Cruz, José Manuel Bermúdez, was joined by the President of the Government of the Canary Islands, Fernando Clavijo; the President of the Tenerife Cabildo, Rosa Dávila, and the Festivities Councillor of the Chicharrero City Council, Javier Caraballero, along with other council members, inaugurated the XLVII Regional Exhibition of Flowers, Plants, and Traditional Canarian Crafts at the García Sanabria park this morning. The exhibition will be open to the public from today until next Sunday, from 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.

Bermúdez emphasized that this event is a cornerstone of the May Festival of Santa Cruz, attracting thousands of visitors every year to enjoy the offerings of the 72 stands this year. He mentioned that the park transforms into the hub of the city’s founding festivities, showcasing its best during the May celebrations.

The President of the Government of the Canary Islands, Fernando Clavijo, noted that the founding festivities of Santa Cruz are an opportunity to showcase the cultural and artisan heritage of the region. He highlighted how the exhibition brings together the best of the Canary Islands to a traditional setting, making Santa Cruz the focal point for residents, visitors from other areas, and tourists keen on experiencing the local culture and traditions.

Rosa Dávila extended her congratulations to Santa Cruz on its 530th anniversary and praised the close connection of the festivities with the floral and plant sector. She reminisced about her childhood visits to the park with her mother to see the traditional “Gorgoritos,” underlining the rich tradition that Garcia Sanabria exudes.

The programme of the Regional Exhibition includes the prestigious Book Fair organised by the Autonomous Organization of Culture. The Book Fair will be held today between Paseo Domingo Pérez Minik and Paseo Marcos Guimerá Peraza.

The renowned Gorgorito de “Maese Villarejo” performances began today at 12:00 p.m. at the Flower Clock in the park, followed by another show at 6:00 p.m. The performances continue tomorrow at 11:00 a.m. and multiple shows on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

The fair features 72 booths, with 11 dedicated to flowers and plants, 18 to gastronomy products, and 43 to various crafts. On Friday, a Children’s Drawing and Painting Contest will take place, starting at 5:00 p.m., open to children aged 3 to 12 years old. The fair will conclude on Sunday at 7:30 p.m. with the award ceremony for the Natural Flower Crosses Contest.

Throughout the five days of the fair, folklore groups will entertain visitors at the Garcia Sanabria Park. The Verode group commences the musical performances at 5:00 p.m. today, followed by AF Idayra at 7:00 p.m. The Tajaraste group will tour the crosses on Friday at 12:00 p.m., ending their performance at the park. The Jariguo group will perform at 5:00 p.m., and AC Bienmesabe at 7:00 p.m.
