Anticipation is building in the capital as the countdown begins for the highly anticipated Santa Cruz Magician’s Ball, a renowned celebration during the city’s founding festivities. The City Council is all set to host this grand event around La Noria Street on Thursday, May 2, starting at 9:00 p.m. Expect thousands of people donned in traditional attire to gather for a night of festivity.

Prior to the main event, Mayor of Santa Cruz, José Manuel Bermúdez, will partake in the traditional floral offering to the Virgin of Candelaria at 8:00 p.m. near her monument. With all 700 dance tables booked in just 15 minutes, a large turnout is expected for an evening filled with traditional Canarian cuisine, live music, entertainment, and environmental consciousness.

Entry to the venue is free and can be accessed through any of the 10 designated checkpoints, where adherence to the traditional Canarian dress code will be verified. Music will take center stage throughout the night. At 10:00 p.m., six local bands will perform in the Campo Castro area, including Tonique, Nijota, Farutes del Atlántico, Virgen de la Alegría, Parranda la Era, and Amuley. Additionally, Taifa Dances will be held in Plaza de Europa with groups like Orígenes, Aceviños, Princesa Dácil, and Delicias del Teide.

Following their respective performances around midnight, the Charco de la Casona stage, located next to the Puente del Cabo, will host a traditional festival featuring Orquesta Revelación, Orquesta Generación Tenerife, and a special performance by Pepe Benavente, who will share the stage with the orchestras and showcase his repertoire.

In light of public transport adjustments due to the Magician’s Ball celebration, MetroTenerife will modify tram line 1’s service on Thursday, May 2. From 7:00 p.m. onwards, the final tram stop in Santa Cruz will be Teatro Guimerá, with Fundación and Intercambiador stops not in service. Tram operations will cease at midnight, as in previous years.

Furthermore, Tenerife Interurban Transport’s lines 909, 919, and 920 will have altered routes, omitting several stops at various times. For instance, line 919 will skip stops from 00:00 on Wednesday, May 1, until 1:00 p.m. on May 3 along its route towards Intercambiador. Lines 909 and 920 will also have stops inaccessible during specific time windows. Line 909, in particular, will divert from its usual path during the specified hours.

The usual venue for the Magician’s Ball spans Antonio Domínguez Alfonso (La Noria), Nifú-Nifá, Campo Castro, Bravo Murillo, as well as Plazas de Europa and the Church of The Conception.

Environmental Initiatives at the Santa Cruz Magician’s Ball

The Santa Cruz Sustainable Foundation will lead environmental awareness efforts during the Magician’s Ball to enforce the new municipal waste regulations. These regulations stress waste reduction and segregation at all events to minimise environmental impact.

Environmental patrols comprising educators and actors will be stationed at the entrances to the dance area from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., educating attendees on waste segregation’s importance for environmental conservation. Following this, patrols will visit tables after 10:00 p.m., emphasising environmental guidelines, reducing food waste, proper waste disposal, and utilisation of designated bins.
