Traffic officers from the Civil Guard arrested a 25-year-old young man who was driving while talking on his mobile phone and rammed into the patrol car carrying two agents in Tenerife. As a result of the intentional collision, the two agents in the Traffic Group vehicle were injured and were transferred to San Juan de Dios Hospital.
The incident took place on Monday evening on the South Motorway (TF-1) in the municipality of Candelaria, according to sources, as both vehicles were heading towards Santa Cruz de Tenerife.
Traffic civil guards noticed that the driver of a Volkswagen Touran was talking on the mobile phone near the Industrial Estate of Valle de Güímar. Upon this violation, the officers decided to signal him to stop.
However, the young man ignored these warnings and continued to drive. The officers decided to follow him to try to make him change his behaviour. At one point, the civil guards drove alongside the Volkswagen Touran. In response, the individual decided to ram the Traffic Group patrol car.
As a result of the impact, one of the agents suffered several injuries, while the other had chest and back trauma. In fact, these agents are on sick leave due to these injuries.
Two other colleagues of the aforementioned agents are also on sick leave, as they were hit while inside the Traffic Group patrol vehicle on the access motorway to Santa Cruz de Tenerife by the Refinery (TF-4) and were rear-ended by a truck.
The 25-year-old young man, a resident of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, is accused of a crime against road safety and assaulting a law enforcement officer. The report for this incident was carried out by officers of the Traffic Accident Unit of the Granadilla de Abona detachment.
These incidents also occurred on Monday evening, as officers were indicating the presence of a broken-down truck. Following the Civil Guard traffic vehicle’s movement, the truck driver whose vehicle had broken down on that road was hit and suffered serious injuries. Shortly afterwards, four Traffic Group officers were hit by reckless actions of other drivers.
