GRAN CANARIA, 27th Apr. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Today, on Saturday, a small boat carrying 116 immigrants on board made its way to Gran Canaria after being intercepted yesterday morning while heading towards the archipelago, having departed from a location on the sub-Saharan coast days ago. Ten individuals had to be taken to medical facilities, with one in a severe condition.

Sources from Maritime Rescue reported that just before 2:00 a.m., the Civil Guard informed the Rescue Control Center in Las Palmas about a suspicious detection, a possible boat or small boat, located 14 miles south of Maspalomas.

The maritime controllers deployed the sea rescuer vessel ‘Macondo’ and alerted other ships in the vicinity to remain extremely vigilant and report any possible sighting of the small boat.

Ultimately, around 3:00 a.m., Salvamar confirmed that they had found the small boat and were guiding it to Arguineguín. On board were close to a hundred people from sub-Saharan regions who are currently receiving assistance from the medical team.

According to the information provided by the Emergency and Security Coordination Center (Cecoes) 1-1-2 and the Red Cross, ten immigrants required transfer to medical facilities due to various conditions, with one in a severe condition.
