Approval was granted by the Cabildo of Tenerife yesterday for a proposal put forth during Monday’s island plenary session. The motion aims to “sustain and promote the use of public road transport for students by means of university shuttles” originating from both the North and South regions of the Island towards the ULL campus. As per the motion, and based on data provided by the University of La Laguna, the island’s Administration commits to providing, by the academic year 2024-2025, “shuttle or regular transportation” services from these areas to the educational institution through the public company Titsa, with routes and timetables to be organised “in line with current demand.”
Initially brought to light by DIARIO DE AVISOS, the young individuals David Bonalde and Andrea Carrero are the driving force behind this initiative that progressed yesterday, despite their names not being explicitly mentioned in the endorsed motion. These students established Propuesta Línea de Guagua, an concept underscored the necessity of introducing shuttle services from various towns in the south heading to the ULL.
Following substantial backing from various sectors, the island’s Government has embraced their suggestion, which is designed to address the university students’ mobility issue, both in the North (where such an alternative already operates) and in the South.
“We are elated, yet also extremely drained. “Balancing university has been challenging,” expressed Andrea. On the other hand, David stressed that, “finally, the Council acknowledges the gravity of this situation and actions are being taken.” Despite desiring “more recognition,” these young individuals disclose that the Cabildo has proposed internships at Titsa for them “and provided us with resources to complete the Final Degree Project (TFG).” They describe themselves as “rebellious and assertive. We urge young people not to settle and to take a stand against injustice,” they highlighted.
