SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 26th April. (EUROPA PRESS) –
On this Friday, the Full Assembly of the Tenerife Cabildo has given the green light to a proposal aiming to guide an Island Scheme for camping areas, parking spaces, and spots for overnight stays for caravans and motorhomes. This initiative seeks to ensure that these locations are furnished with essential amenities such as potable water, electricity, and sanitation facilities in order to prevent any adverse impact on the island’s environment and its mobility.
The agreement entails the initiation of a temporary regulation process, as well as sending the draft of said scheme and the strategic environmental document to the Environmental Assessment Commission of Tenerife (CEAT) for a Strategic Environmental Assessment.
Moreover, the Cabildo will work towards establishing collaborative agreements with the relevant municipalities to kickstart construction works in the initially identified areas in line with the approved urban planning, effectively establishing the island-wide network of camping areas, parking spaces, and overnight spots for caravans and motorhomes.
The primary goal of the scheme is to accommodate leisure activities for the numerous enthusiasts seeking this experience, under standardised criteria across the entirety of Tenerife. This includes ensuring quality, accessibility, and safety, along with efficient public services and utilities. Additionally, it aims to regulate the activity in a sustainable and environmentally-friendly manner in the island’s coastal and natural areas, which are the main hubs for such activities.
Finally, the agreement involves developing the scheme with a sustainability-focused approach, while respecting the environment, by ensuring all locations are situated in unprotected areas and adequately equipped to sustain the proposed infrastructure.
