SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 26th April. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria’s Scientific Committee of the Economic and Fiscal Regime (REF) Chair recently met with the President of the Canary Islands Parliament, Astrid Pérez. The committee presented a collection of books published by the entity between 2015 and 2023.

During the meeting, Astrid Pérez expressed gratitude for the donation and stated plans to “continue the annual events dedicated to our REF, starting in 2023, with the support of experts from the Chair and the participation of students from local universities.”

“We aim to establish these dedicated REF events as educational and informative, to ensure that our society views the unique Economic and Fiscal Regime of the Canary Islands as a cause worth fighting for. Collaborating with this Chair, which consistently excels in this area, is key to achieving this goal,” added the President.

In attendance at the meeting were Salvador Miranda Calderín, the Chair’s Director, along with Orlando Luján Mascareño and Antonio Viñuela Llanos, as members of the scientific committee. Also present were key figures supporting the Chair: Alcibiades Trancho Lemes, Dean of the College of Economists of Las Palmas; Samuel Cruz Palenzuela, Dean of the College of Commercial and Business Graduates of Santa Cruz de Tenerife; Julio García-Pérez Fernández, Delegate of the Spanish Association of Tax Advisors of the Canary Islands; and Juan Luis Alayón García, President of the Association of Tax Advisors of the Canary Islands.

The REF Chair Collection comprises seven books available in both print and digital formats. They cover current issues concerning the economic, legal, and tax aspects of the REF, as well as the historical origins and evolution of the regime from the Castilian conquest to 2000.

The published books include: The Crossroads of the REF. The Origin and State of its Tax Incentives (2015); The Challenges of the REF. Aid Control, Job Creation, and Regional Financing (2016); Origins and Evolution of the REF. Volume I, The Royal Treasury of the 15th and 16th Centuries by Salvador Miranda Calderín (2017); Origins and Evolution of the REF. Volume II, The Local Treasury, 15th and 16th Centuries by Salvador Miranda Calderín (2018); The REF Update (2019); Origins and Evolution of the REF. Volume III, 17th Century by Salvador Miranda Calderín (2022); The REF Post-Pandemic. Economic Challenges and Legal Security by Various Authors (2023); and Origins and Evolution of the REF. Volume IV, 18th Century (in print) by Salvador Miranda Calderín.
