The music of the different local artists energized the event culminating in the discovery of the sign that the inhabitants and visitors of the municipality will from now on find themselves at the entrances of the town and port.
Francisco Mestre, president of the aforementioned national group, which includes more than a hundred Spanish towns with less than 15,000 inhabitants, highlighted the quality charter with more than 40 points required to enter the network. Among other requirements, he stressed that Garachico more than meets the criteria of urban planning, pedestrianization, cleaning or your heritage intangible such as culture or gastronomy. Mestre expressed his desire that the entry of Garachico in this network “raise the figures for quality tourism in the municipality.”
The mayor of the municipality, José Heriberto González (CC), thanked Francisco Mestre the initiative to create this tourist network dedicated “to towns with less than 15,000 inhabitants that contribute so much to our country.” He also thanked all the attending authorities and the participants in the event. Garachico’s first president did not forget La Palma, remembering that “what we are seeing in the Aridane valley must be similar to what happened in Garachico exactly 315 years ago.”
Garachico shares this honor with four other Canarian towns (Agulo, Tejeda, Teguise and Betancuria) and with national jewels such as Santillana del Mar, Peñíscola, Chinchón, Sepúlveda, Almagro or Cudillero.
