The CSIF trade union has presented itself as a private plaintiff in the speedy trial conducted at Court of Inquiry No. 5 in Santa Cruz de Tenerife against the purported assailant of a driver from the Municipal Local Police, identified as IMD, aged 64, who, last week, violently hit and threw the motorbike. The officer fell to the ground together with the vehicle, resulting in a fracture of three toes and a cracked rib.

The incident took place on the night of April 16, when the accused stopped in the middle of the road, intercepted the police officer, and then delivered a powerful blow to his side, causing him to fall. Following assistance from other officers, the suspect was apprehended near Irineo González Square, where he confessed to assaulting the police officer.

According to union delegate Jesús Illada, “we have requested the maximum penalty for assaulting an authority, as well as seeking compensation for the injured colleague.”

Furthermore, the CSIF trade union noted that “the prosecutor is currently formulating the charges post the speedy trial, hence we are awaiting the judicial ruling. At present, the alleged assailant of the municipal police officer has been released, with sentencing pending.”
