The company director of McDonald’s Spain, Paloma Cabral, revealed on Friday the company’s “quite ambitious” expansion strategy that includes inaugurating new restaurants in the Canary Islands, a region that is not only a priority but also strategically significant for our growth plans.
Speaking at a panel on innovation in crucial sectors held during the ‘Canary Islands to the Future’ Conference, organized by Europa Press Canarias, Paloma Cabral disclosed that McDonald’s operates 603 restaurants in Spain, with 43 located in the Canary Islands, where the company collaborates with three franchise holders.
She also emphasised that innovation has been ingrained in McDonald’s ethos since its inception, striving to achieve this through three strategic focal points known as the MCD Strategy, maximising McDonald’s impact from a social perspective; creating quality employment from an economic viewpoint, and advancing sustainability, for instance, by installing electric vehicle charging points at its restaurants or introducing electric plates.
Cabral stressed that McDonald’s also drives innovation in its business model by consistently launching new products that can meet consumer demands, with a focus on local produce, as over 70% of McDonald’s shopping basket is sourced from Spain, and through restaurant design where digitalisation plays a pivotal role.
From this standpoint, the company director for McDonald’s Spain highlighted that their environmental impact has transformed the customer experience into something “completely distinctive” by innovating communication channels, be it through kiosks, the McDonald’s app, or even offering table delivery services.
As explained by Paloma Cabral, this is the current model that McDonald’s is endorsing, constantly innovating to explore fresh avenues for engaging with consumers through technology, as well as developing new restaurant formats tailored to customer preferences, including aspects like decor to enhance their in-store experience.
