SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 19th April. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Various initiatives have been undertaken by the Cabildo of Tenerife to enhance the quality of irrigation water in the northeast region, including the formalization of an agreement with the Santa Cruz City Council to activate the El Chorrillo WWTP. This agreement offers the opportunity to supply quality water for agricultural purposes in the mentioned region.

This week, the Minister of the Primary Sector, Valentín González, met with farmers from Tegueste to discuss the measures that the island’s institution will implement to alleviate the impact of the water crisis on Tenerife’s countryside.

The activation of the El Chorrillo Tertiary is one of the 34 actions outlined in the declaration of a water emergency proposed by the Cabildo. These proposals aim to enhance the quantity and quality of available resources for agricultural irrigation.

Highlighting that farmers in the northeast of the island are dealing with both a drought situation and poor water quality with significant conductivity, Valentín González stressed the importance of this new initiative.

By implementing the El Chorrillo Tertiary project, the Cabildo will facilitate the supply of higher-quality irrigation water to the northeast of Tenerife. The councillor explained that this infrastructure, a purified water desalination plant, will enable the integration of regenerated and treated water into the southeast region.

Valentín González also revealed that the Primary Sector department is progressing with two hydraulic infrastructure projects in Tegueste. One project aims to deliver regenerated water to Mesa Mota, while the other focuses on establishing an irrigation network within the town.
