An ambulance was called on Tuesday night, marking the first medical intervention since the hunger strike by activists from the platform commenced. The Canary Islands Sold Out activist required urgent assistance due to severe hypoglycemia after fasting for six days.
The group revealed that the individual receiving medical attention has now stabilized. They also mentioned that the presence of medical teams at Plaza de La Concepción in La Laguna (Tenerife), where the activists are camped, will become more frequent as the hunger strike progresses.
Canary Islands Sold Out condemns the lack of concern from the regional government and President Fernando Clavijo regarding the health of the strikers. They criticize the absence of a tourism moratorium, binding assemblies, or halting the Tejita hotel and Cuna del Alma mega-project, which have faced irregularities and court-ordered stoppages during the previous term that the current CC-PP government allowed to expire or lifted, enabling the projects to continue.
Canary Islands Sold Out collective believes that the Government, as the forefront of social organization, has a responsibility to safeguard its citizens and initiate a dialogue concerning the demands and necessities during such perilous circumstances like a hunger strike. They accuse Clavijo of evading this responsibility by remaining unresponsive.
Despite calls for a peaceful dialogue by numerous politicians, the activists remain deprived of the opportunity to engage in such discussions.
The platform demanded that the Government respond to their demands within ten days. They highlighted increasing support for their cause as six activists have endured over 160 hours without food. They affirmed their unwavering determination to pursue their objective, which is simply to secure a future for the exhausted Canary Islands. They cautioned that the activists’ fate and well-being now hang by a precarious thread, which only political inaction can sever.
