The Tenerife Island Council keeps in place the prohibition on lighting fires in recreational and outdoor areas – be it barbecues, campfires, stoves, or gas cookers – as well as the use of any machinery or equipment that may produce sparks (such as brush cutters, welding gear, or radial saws) and the use of any pyrotechnic materials in high-risk zones.
Grade 1 preventive measures against forest fires are being enforced considering the weather conditions and the alert declared by the Canary Islands Government on Tenerife Island, as stated by the institution in an official statement.
The Council advises against entering or staying in forested areas of the island during the alert period, and to take utmost care across the entire island with any activity that could lead to fires (such as smoking, using generators, or electrical devices).
The restrictions corresponding to grade 1 forest fire prevention measures will remain in place until the alert status is lifted.
