Members of the Civil Guard and the Local Police of Granadilla de Abona intervened to apprehend a middle-aged man of Italian nationality who allegedly tried to set fire to a woman and a man inside a car, also causing partial damage to a house.
The incident took place at around 10:00 am in the area of Chimiche, in the outskirts of the mentioned municipality.
For reasons being investigated by professionals of the Armed Institute, the aforementioned Italian individual threw bottles filled with petrol at the vehicle where the victims were located.
Allegedly, the fire also affected the door or part of the facade of a house in the area, according to some sources.
The Italian man has been residing in Chimiche for over 15 years and allegedly has various police records.
According to the information that has been revealed, the now accused also hurled an object at the car where the woman was present.
According to sources consulted, the violent episode stems from a neighbourhood dispute between the parties and the man allegedly suffers from mental health issues.
In fact, allegedly the individual resisted arrest and it took officers a while to place handcuffs on him, as he was very agitated.
Some residents of Chimiche believe it is necessary that, if the detainee indeed has mental health problems, he should receive the appropriate assistance to prevent incidents like the one that occurred this Sunday.
The affected individuals suffered only minor injuries.
Some residents in the area who were carrying out their agricultural tasks were surprised to hear various sirens from security and emergency services. Local Police and the Civil Guard patrols from the main station in Granadilla de Abona were dispatched to the scene.
Furthermore, two firetrucks from the Fire Brigade of the Tenerife Consortium from Las Chafiras station arrived in Chimiche to extinguish the flames on the mentioned car. The individual was taken to the facilities of the Granadilla de Abona station. It is expected that he will soon be brought before the Court of First Instance and Investigation, which until yesterday was serving as the Guard duty in the Granadilla de Abona district.
