Yesterday, the Governing Board of the City Council of Santa Cruz, led by Mayor José Manuel Bermúdez, approved the urgent tender for the demolition of five dilapidated houses and old garages situated between San Martín Street and Señor de las Tribulaciones Street. This is to pave the way for an expansion project that will nearly double the current parking spaces from 35 to 78 after completion,” the councillor revealed.

“The Works Councillor, Javier Rivero, explained that this is the existing free parking area for 35 vehicles on the plot purchased by the City Council in 2022 to address the parking shortage in the area during the ongoing remodelling works of this central city street. These ongoing works have reduced parking spaces, leading to the approval of the emergency demolition tender for five ruined houses and the old garage,” Rivero added.

“The plot situated between San Martín Street and Señor de las Tribulaciones Street will see an increase in parking spaces to accommodate up to 78 vehicles,” announced Rivero. He further mentioned that “the construction is expected to commence towards the end of August or early September, following the approved investment of over 405,000 euros to add 42 more parking spaces in La Rosa.”

Furthermore, the councillor cautioned that “once the project is completed, the temporary parking lot will be closed during the transition to the new parking lot. The new facility is intended to be operational once the La Rosa street remodelling is finalised.” Rivero concluded by stating that “the City Council paid three million euros to the Coral Homes group for this site, which includes the dilapidated houses on the 1,400 square metre plot, aiming to alleviate the parking shortage in the El Toscal neighbourhood.”
