Motorists navigating their way into Santa Cruz de Tenerife this morning near the Meridiano Shopping Center and the Fairgrounds were caught off guard by unexpected traffic changes.
These changes led to long queues and traffic chaos during the early hours of this Monday, prompting the intervention of the Local Police to reorganize and notify drivers about the alterations.
By 2:00 p.m., the City Council issued a statement clarifying that these disruptions are part of a new phase in the renovation and expansion project of the Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP).
The modifications involve road closures in high-traffic areas, alterations to the directional flow of certain streets, and partial road closures in specific locations.
TRAFFIC ALTERATIONS
One significant change is the closure of the two ascending lanes on Manuel Hermoso Rojas Avenue between Pedro Modesto Campos and Mayor José Emilio García Gómez streets.
Additionally, the entrance lanes to the latter street at its intersection with Manuel Hermoso Rojas Avenue had to be closed off.
Pedro Modesto Campos Street now operates with one-way traffic flow, allowing vehicles coming from Manuel Hermoso Rojas Avenue to head towards Mayor José Emilio García Gómez Street.
Another measure to streamline traffic for those descending from Manuel Hermoso Rojas Avenue or Unión Artística El Cabo Street is to redirect them towards Alcalde José Emilio Street. Garcia Gomez. The same applies to Miguel Maffiotte Street, which will also have one-way traffic.
These changes may disrupt the usual traffic patterns in the area, with alternative routes recommended for light vehicles originating from the lower section of Manuel Hermosa Rojas Avenue or Penetracion Avenue (TF-4) heading towards Alcalde José Emilio García Gómez via Unión Artística El Cabo and Pedro Modesto Campos streets.
To exit the construction-affected area towards the Northern Highway (TF-5), motorists are advised to take the following route: Áurea Díaz Flores Street, Tres de Mayo Avenue in a descending direction, change direction at Nivaria Tejera Street, and exit the city via Tres de Mayo. Another option is to travel along Adán Martín Menis Street towards Vicente Álvarez Pedreira Street, Constitución Avenue and use the Tres de Mayo Avenue tunnel.
For heavy vehicles, a designated route has been set up via Ermita de Regla Street, Vicente Álvarez Pedreira Street, Adán Martín Menis Street, Álvaro Rodríguez López, Manuel Hermoso Rojas Avenue, and onwards to their destination.
