Under the guidance of the master liquorist Fabián Cercano, La Vieja Licorería started its professional journey in 1994 in La Esperanza, Tenerife, crafting homemade liqueurs in a small tavern. “Over time,” they explain, “friends and customers began wanting to take home some of the bottled liqueurs which led us to enter the market as La Vieja Licorería in 2002.”
And so begins a wonderful journey with stops in Frankfurt, Vienna, Stockholm, London, Moscow, New York… “and of course our beloved La Laguna, where we sold the first bottles,” recalls about a product that can be found in wine cellars and specialized stores and now through the newly launched online store. La Vieja Licorería’s liqueurs are aimed at those who want to enjoy an authentic liqueur, crafted in an artisanal manner.
“They are also highly regarded in the world of mixology since Alberto Pizarro (Bobby Gin, Barcelona) visited us in 2013 and introduced us to that sector of astonishing creativity. Bartenders always seek authentic flavours; one of them is Junior Cóctel who has always trusted our liqueurs to work his magic,” they explain.
“Before big brands made it fashionable to have a good storytelling, many people now look for unique, singular things with history. We could already tell that story from the beginning of those full moon nights, storytellers by candlelight, an old stone and mortar house surrounded by trees and mist… On the other hand, our liqueurs have always had the right amount of sugar,” Cercano says, “now that many people shun it; we make them by macerating fruits, spices, and natural botanicals, never with essences.
We follow traditional methods, and the raw material used is organic and natural, avoiding any artificial additives. The process is slow, letting days and months drip slowly onto the final product.”
