Garachico officially joins the club of the most beautiful towns in Spain

The Association of the Most Beautiful Villages in Spain He included Garachico on his list on January 1; presented the recognition to the mayor in the last Madrid International Tourism Fair (Fitur), and today formalizes on the ground a recognition that, in the opinion of the mayor, José Heriberto González (CC), “will only provide benefits.” The City Council has organized a weekend full of activities and solidarity with the island of La Palma to finally make the entry of the municipality into this national network official. The institutional act, which will take place at 7:30 p.m. in the Glorieta de San Francisco, will be attended by the president of this national network, Francisco Mestre.

After uncovering the poster that will commemorate this recognition, Érika Toledo and Rosmén Rodríguez, from the violin group of the Daute-Isla Baja Regional School of Music will perform; Ben-Gara; Arturo Castillo; Mar Gutiérrez, and Dani González. Entry will be limited until full capacity is reached. Garachico and the other four Canarian municipalities in the network wanted to make a gesture of solidarity with La Palma and have designed a commemorative t-shirt that will be on sale over the weekend. Its price is 10 euros and all the proceeds will go entirely to those affected by the volcanic eruption.

On the morning of this Saturday 13 there will be children’s activities carried out by the La Maresía collective, with free transportation from the midlands for minors in that area of the municipality. In addition, ping-pong tournaments will be organized, with CD Prakan, and Canarian ball, by RCD Gara veterans, among other sports activities. The day will end with the presentation of the book Garachico: graphic vision of its past, by Carlos Acosta. It will be at 7:30 p.m. at the Casa de Piedra. On Sunday more sporting events and a solidarity walk are organized between the neighborhoods of Genovés and San Juan del Reparo.

The Association of the Most Beautiful Villages in Spain defines Garachico as “a town located in the northwest of Tenerife, which has a rich architectural heritage in its historic center, very well preserved, from the 16th and 17th centuries, for which it was declared BIC in 1994 ». Garachico and Agulo accessed this list on January 1 with Beget (Girona), Molinaseca (León), Baños de la Encina (Jaén), Genalguacil (Málaga), Nuevo Baztán (Madrid), Valverde de la Vera (Cáceres), Roncal (Navarra), Bulnes and Cudillero (Asturias). These 11 Spanish towns are the ones have managed to pass an audit with more than 40 criteria focused in aspects such as heritage care, harmony in the municipality, cleaning, preservation of facades, vehicle circulation, care of green areas, programmed cultural activity or attention to traditions.
