The leader of the Socialist Group in the Tenerife Cabildo, Pedro Martín, along with the PSOE representative in the Guía de Isora City Council, Josefa Mesa, have officially requested the finalisation of the enhancement project on Avenida del Emigrante in Playa San Juan, involving the removal and relocation of the old pumping station to the vicinity of the fishing refuge, where a designated area has been set aside for this purpose.

The newly constructed pumping station has effectively addressed the power issues that plagued its predecessor. This upgraded facility is anticipated to resolve the two main issues of the former station: unpleasant odours and the visual improvement of the coastline.

The socialist officials highlighted that the revitalisation of this particular section of Playa San Juan’s waterfront, which is nearing completion, was initiated during the previous terms of office of this political party in Guía de Isora, focusing on the regeneration of public coastal spaces.

The project was awarded in August 2022 for a total of €2,050,355, with 80% funded by the Cabildo and 20% by the municipality, falling under the Tenerife and the Sea programme. The overall upgrade of the seafront totals over five million euros.

Pedro Martín emphasised, “Securing the relocation of the pumping station is crucial to the project’s completion. Enhancing sea access, public amenities, and traffic flow has always been a key goal of mine as mayor and president. We have achieved this in Playa San Juan, as well as in Alcalá (both in Guía de Isora), San Miguel, Fasnia, or Buenavista del Norte, including the Masca ravine pier.”

Josefa Mesa affirmed, “The initial phase marked a significant transformation in the landscape and restoration of the coastline, creating larger spaces for dining and neighbourly comfort.” Mesa detailed the project’s progression, stating, “The coastal restoration plan was initially aimed at repair. However, we eventually considered relocation as a viable option.”

Fortunately, the port authorities approved the move without issues, allowing us to proceed in that direction.” Reflecting on the work carried out during the previous term, Mesa mentioned, “We encountered the necessity to enhance electrical capacity due to insufficiency. This was addressed by installing a new transformer. Furthermore, additional work was undertaken from the church onwards to ensure an adequate electricity supply for local residents.”
