This artistic style within the urban art world came to me through the motivation of my street artist friends, who encouraged me to portray my style in graffiti and installations in the streets. I have been painting on the streets for years, experimenting, and each time the canvases get bigger,” explains the Canarian artist Lauro Samblás, art and styling director, who in addition to his vast creative production, has carried out interventions in urban spaces in various Spanish cities such as Santa Cruz de Tenerife and Ibiza, and outside Spain, in Romania.

Samblás says that these murals are a continuation of his work, “which always adapts to new supports. It’s a completely new and different style but ultimately it’s just another blank canvas for me,” he adds.

“Fortunately,” continues the Canarian creator, “urban art is starting to be considered and respected as an artistic style and this has generated a global value. It’s not a trend but an artistic expression that is trying to be respected and positioned where it deserves to be.”

Learning from artistic references and friends

Lauro Samblás’ creative influences are “my great friends Txemy and Iker Muro. Thanks to them,” he says, “I have learned key techniques and knowledge to develop and enjoy these types of artistic projects.”

Regarding the preliminary process involved in tackling these works, he confesses that they always start with a prior sketch before execution, though I like to break that pattern and improvise to bring more freshness and creative freedom; not limiting myself to a drawing and listening to what the support desires.”

These large-scale works by Samblás are completed in approximately a week “but I can also create a piece in a day depending on the format, the location to intervene, and the conditions”. “The future is the present and right now I want to continue adding colour to all the places where I live or where my work is required,” concludes the young Canarian creator whose production also includes advertising.
