The adverse condition of the sea compelled 40 individuals from various towns in Tenerife to evacuate this morning. Among the impacted municipalities is Candelaria, where coastal phenomena have led to flooding and devastation along the shoreline.

The mayor of Candelaria, Mari Brito, shared on Televisión Canaria that the waves have surged all the way to the Basilica Square. “I don’t recall the sea ever advancing this far,” she remarked.

The town has endured a tumultuous night due to the high tide in the early morning, causing destruction in numerous coastal areas. Apart from the Basilica Square, Punta Larga beach, Fishermen’s Square, San Blas Promenade, Graciliano Promenade (Caletillas), the municipal pool, the fishermen’s association building and La Viuda beach have all been impacted, with four individuals evacuated from the latter.

With the high tide forecasted around 3:30 p.m., the town hall parking area will be closed from 12:00 p.m., and vehicles parked there are required to be relocated.

Moreover, traffic has been halted on La Piscina street, and entry to the Patrona de Canarias Square and San Blas Promenade has been restricted.

“The force of the sea has caught us off guard,” mentioned Mari Brito, emphasizing the need to abide by the instructions and adhere to the safety measures disseminated through social media and the press.

Clean-up crews have commenced efforts to restore normalcy in the affected regions, evaluate the extent of the damage, and implement precautions for ensuring safety.

The public is urged to refrain from entering closed or marked hazardous coastal zones.
