The award for the design of the photovoltaic project in nursery schools and primary education schools, along with the management of works, has been granted by the governing board of the Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council. This project, part of the Recovery, Transformation, and Resilience Plan, has a total budget of 85,066 euros, funded by Next Generation European funds. The companies Promyconsfot SL and Investigacion y Control de Calidad SAU will be in charge of this initiative.
Mayor José Manuel Bermúdez stated that “the implementation of these photovoltaic systems, which produce electricity from solar energy, will not only enhance the quality of life for users but also contribute to environmental preservation, a matter of utmost importance to the council.”
On the other hand, Carlos Tarife, the Councilor for Public Services, emphasized that “this was a long-awaited project that is now coming to fruition, thanks to European funding. With this initiative, educational institutions will have access to clean and unlimited solar energy, which is particularly significant in the Canary Islands.”
The city council has been dedicated to environmental protection and emission reduction ever since joining the Covenant of Mayors in 2013 and adopting the first Sustainable Energy Action Plan (PAES) in 2015. The council’s target is to reduce municipal emissions by 55% by 2030 through renewable energy adoption and environmental stewardship.
