SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, April 9. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Emergency Services Directorate of the Canary Islands Government has activated the alert status in accordance with the Specific Emergency Plan for Adverse Meteorological Phenomena Risks (PEFMA), due to the forecast of soaring temperatures across the region.
The alert will be enforced from 12:00 p.m. this Wednesday due to an expected heatwave with unusually high temperatures for this time of the year, combined with dry air and varying degrees of haze.
Maximum temperatures are expected to soar to, or even exceed, 30 to 34 ºC in extensive areas of Lanzarote and Fuerteventura, as well as on the western and southern slopes of the most prominent islands, with the possibility of similar values in local areas across the archipelago.
The State Meteorological Agency, which has pinpointed the beginning of this heatwave in the eastern islands, forecasts the heatwave to persist until Sunday, with a noticeable temperature drop from Monday onwards, although temperatures around 30ºC may still linger in certain regions.
