The Los Silos municipal pool has been closed since 2019, after renovations in which the Town Hall invested 365,376 Euros and once the administrative concession granted to the Silos Council by the Directorate General of Coastal in 1968 expired (2018). The PP showed interest in the actions of the local government to resolve this situation; the mayor, Socialist Carmen Luz Baso, pointed out that it was her predecessors (PP-CC) who did not resort to the Administrative Litigation route to claim the pool.
Macarena Fuentes, CC spokesperson, argued that the closure of the pool occurred under the regional and insular governments of the PSOE and due to the “inaction and neglect” of Ángel Víctor Torres and Pedro Martín. “Despite all the requests we made to the Torres Government to intervene and prevent the demolition, we were never listened to,” Fuentes insisted.

She reiterated that the intention of the Directorate General of Coastal to demolish the Los Silos pools is because “it was the previous local government of the PSOE that, in 2018, did not process the extension of the concession for the occupation of the coastal-marine public domain in this area”. The CC councillor recalls that regional councillor José Antonio Valbuena “advised us not to go to the Administrative Litigation and wait for the transfer of Coastal competences”, because “if a judge makes a decision about this installation, there would be no turning back.”

The mayor directly blamed CC and PP for the situation of this case: “There was no effort.” She stated that in 2022 they submitted a previous appeal that received no response and that the two-month period to appeal expired. “We are working on arranging a meeting with the state secretary” to explore the formula that would allow a new administrative concession for the pool. She concluded by pointing to the Candelaria Town Hall, whose pool is in a similar situation, as an example of what Los Silos should have done. The Mariana Village judicialised the process and has a project to tackle a new administrative concession for its pool.
