The City Council of Santa Cruz de Tenerife is set to invest nearly Two million euros in upgrading eleven tourist areas within the city, including Las Teresitas beach, the El Block and Los Charcos bathing areas, García Sanabria park, and Alameda del Duque de Santa Elena.
These endeavours are expected to be finalised by December 31 and will entail a comprehensive revitalisation of these locations, dedicated to the recreation of both residents and visitors.
Planned actions include replacing walkways on the Las Teresitas sand, providing shade structures for events, and enhancing sports facilities on the aforementioned beach, among other initiatives. Information panels will also be set up to inform drivers about real-time parking availability in the bathing areas, while smart lockers will be installed at Las Teresitas, El Block, and Los Charcos for parking bicycles, along with the installation of tall surveillance towers for lifeguards.
Mayor José Manuel Bermúdez emphasised the “significant effort we continuously make to maintain our city in top-notch conditions throughout the year. It is now time to focus on these tourist spots, which are emblematic and attract numerous visitors, ensuring they are enhanced for the pleasure and enjoyment of everyone, locals and tourists alike.”
In the words of Carlos Tarife, the Councilor for Public Services and Strategic Planning, “the city will undertake eleven sizeable actions between now and the year’s end, to improve these heavily frequented spaces.” He added that “the council will persist in this direction to offer the city these recreational environments that bring vitality to urban life.”
Areas
In the García Sanabria park, two initiatives are in the pipeline. The first, with a budget of 160,000 euros, involves standardising the type of staffs and lights, where the latter will be replaced with LED technology for enhanced environmental efficiency.
The second, budgeted at 250,000 euros, focuses on upgrading the park’s perimeter roads. These works will be executed within the Public Services lighting contract managed by the road maintenance company.
At Las Teresitas, a budget of 195,000 euros has been allocated for replacing the beach walkways. This endeavour will include a tender for supplying these wooden structures at each of the eleven beach access points, with mats ranging from 20 to 40 metres in length, depending on the access point.
With a budget of 468,000 euros, diverse sports and leisure activities will be implemented in the final section of Las Teresitas, both on land and at sea. This plan includes setting up temporary shade structures for events, demarcating a gaming zone in the sea, training areas, beach volleyball courts, service office containers, changing rooms, and storage facilities. Furthermore, a Red Cross service booth will be erected for 180,000 euros.
Lifeguard Watchtowers and Transformation of La Alameda
The proposed investment includes the installation of four lifeguard surveillance towers for 96,000 euros at Las Teresitas beach, Los Charcos, and El Block. Two of these towers are substantial, while the others are mobile. Moreover, an amount of 251,557.62 euros has been apportioned to enhance the signage panels providing real-time parking status information. This activity encompasses platform installation, parking sensor implementation, and upgrading traffic regulation traffic lights on the beach with an adaptive system.
Furthermore, smart and individual lockers for parking bicycles will be installed in these three bathing areas for 117,000 euros. Each bike stand comprises ten bicycle lockers and ten scooter lockers, each equipped with power outlets. In Los Charcos, stainless steel sea access stairs will be built for 94,000 euros, along with an inclusive games area costing 35,000 euros.
The pedestrian walkway in Alameda del Duque de Santa Elena will also undergo renovation, with an expense of 150,000 euros allocated for this upgrade.
