An ordinance passed to speed up the cleaning of plots near the mountain area

The plenary session of El Rosario Town Council supports the preliminary approval, under urgency, of the ordinance for cleaning, fencing, and closing off plots and plots of land in the municipality of El Rosario. This is a regulatory document that, among other measures, will expedite the cleaning of plots located in rural areas adjacent to the mountain, known as the interface area, which is where the main safety problems occur in the event of a forest fire. The proposal was approved yesterday with the favorable vote of the local Government (9) and the abstention of the opposition councilors present (5).

El Rosario’s Mayor, Escolástico Gil, stated that after the major fire last summer, “we have not stopped looking for solutions and formulas for houses in interface areas to have the greatest protection and I committed, on the ground of the fire, to implement regulations that were effective and efficient to increase people’s safety.” Therefore, in recent months, the departments of Security, Ecological Transition, and Urban Planning “have worked together on the development of the regulatory body of the ordinance.”

The new legal text primarily aims at the safety of people, property, and animals in interface areas, but also addresses other interests such as fencing and cleaning of plots in urban areas. Gil emphasizes that “the law that supports us, used until now to enforce the cleaning of plots, has proven to be insufficient due to the cumbersome procedure to compel owners to clean their land.” In addition, the Mayor announced that the Municipal Emergency Plan will be updated after its approval seven years ago.

In the motion section, three out of five motions were approved, all unanimously. This was the case for the proposals of the PSOE for the municipality to join the Peer Tutoring Programme (TEI) for the prevention of school bullying and for the installation of pictograms in children’s parks; and the initiative from Vox to show support for prison officials.
