The Mayor’s Council established by the island government is crucial for the ongoing plan

The Plenary Hall of the Cabildo hosted the constitution of the Mayor’s Council of Tenerife, a consultative and information-sharing collegiate body. Its purpose is to materialise the collaboration and participation of the associative movement in the future Insular Plan aimed at this population segment.

The President of the Cabildo, Rosa Dávila, stated that with the establishment, “we do justice to a group that is a priority for this government.” She emphasised: “We will ensure they have the necessary resources and support to enjoy a full and dignified life at this stage.” Dávila stressed that “today (yesterday) is a very important day for the institution as it achieves one of the government’s key milestones.”

She reflected: “We understand that as an administration and as a society, it is crucial that we value and support our elderly by acknowledging their wisdom, experience, and contributions over the years.” “That is my commitment as president and that of the Social Action department led by Vice President Águeda Fumero, whom I congratulate for driving this key document forward,” concluded Rosa Dávila.

Fumero highlighted the work of the past months “to give impetus to the participatory process.” This will allow the election of representatives from the North and South regions, as well as the Metropolitan Area to be part of the Council. She noted the “high participation.” Yesterday, the first plenary session was held with the presence of all political groups of the Cabildo.

Águeda Fumero stated, “we will convene a new plenary session in May when a very ambitious process concludes.” In this regard, she appreciates having given a voice to associations, administrations, professional associations, technicians, and other stakeholders to understand the needs and demands in each area of the island. The goal is to launch the new Comprehensive Care Programme for the Elderly People of Tenerife, where the Cabildo undertakes to develop activities to meet their needs.
