SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 10 Nov. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Cabildo de La Palma, with the collaboration of the College of Engineers of Canals, Roads and Ports and together with the rest of the administrations, is working on the construction of a jetty on Charco Verde beach, in Los Llanos de Aridane, to facilitate access to residents and farmers to the coast of the Valley, whose main land communication route was blocked by the lava flows.

The president of the Cabildo, Mariano Hernández Zapata, pointed out that the construction of this jetty would allow recreational boats to connect the Port of Tazacorte with the coast of the Aridane Valley in a more comfortable way, replacing the emergency work that the Spanish Navy will carry out in the first place. At the moment, which is already working on a transportation plan for the people who work on that coast.

“The current route to Puerto Naos, Charco Verde, El Remo and Las Hoyas involves a journey of almost two hours on alternative roads that, in turn, are affected by the eruption due to the accumulation of ash, with what this means for vehicles and driving. At this moment, a connection by sea seems the most optimal solution, both in terms of time and safety, “the president explained.

Hernández Zapata has made the project known to the Minister of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda, Raquel Sánchez, during her visit to the island, as well as to the President of the Canary Islands, Ángel Víctor Torres, and to the regional heads of Public Works, Transport and Housing and Ecological Transition and the Fight against Climate Change, Sebastián Franquis and José Antonio Valbuena. In addition, the president has approached the project with the Demarcation of Coasts of the Canary Islands, which has already given its approval to it.

The president of the Cabildo explained that this project is being carried out together with the Official College of Engineers of Roads, Canals and Ports of the Canary Islands, whom he thanks “for making themselves available to the Cabildo, working for free.”

At the moment, the viability of the jetty in the Charco Verde is being analyzed together with the Government of the Canary Islands and the City Council of Los Llanos de Aridane, since it was the mayor of this municipality, Noelia García Leal, who requested in the Mixed Commission of the last week the proposal was studied.

“Now more than ever it is important that all administrations continue to work together to offer solutions that are effective for our neighbors and continue to help the island’s recovery,” concluded Mariano Hernández Zapata.
