Reports have been made by residents of Granadilla de Abona and Charco del Pino to the Civil Guard and Local Police regarding the hurling of multiple bottles containing flammable substances at residences. Graffiti referencing two individuals have also appeared in private homes, a school, and the Charco del Pino football field, with suspected connections to these incidents.

Some residents interviewed by local media stated that the incidents involving “Molotov cocktails” began around 10 months ago, targeting the doors of four homes (two in Granadilla and two in Charco del Pino), resulting in two fires with no reported injuries but significant material damage. The latest occurrence took place last Sunday night, leading to heavy smoke that alarmed the neighbourhood.

DETAILS OF THE CASE

Authorities from the City Council confirmed these as “specific incidents” currently under investigation by the Civil Guard and Local Police of Granadilla de Abona. Statements have been taken from various residents as part of the inquiry, which focuses on exploring potential links between the acts of vandalism. According to sources, one line of investigation is considering the likelihood of a personal vendetta.

“The perpetrators consistently use the same method, deploying Molotov cocktails following graffiti with offensive language targeting two individuals. The neighbourhood is gripped by fear, feeling extremely tense and distressed due to the nighttime attacks, which posed lethal risks from smoke inhalation or burns,” revealed one resident who chose not to disclose their identity to DIARIO DE AVISOS.

“As far as we know, the culprits remain at large despite the diligent efforts of the Civil Guard and Local Police,” expressed the resident, proposing the installation of security cameras “to protect lives against these vandalistic and highly perilous acts, constituting deliberate arson – essentially attempted homicides, a grave concern.”
