The Tenerife Cabildo has unveiled the proposed project for the redevelopment of the Tenerife Marine Sports Centre (Cidemat) in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, in the Valleseco neighbourhood, following the provisional approval of the construction plan. A previously closed and neglected building since 2020 is set to undergo a transformation with the addition of two new structures, along with a spacious open area as a dry marina and an outdoor gathering spot featuring stepped seating, a ramp providing access to the sea from the buildings, and a cafeteria.

The facility will also offer an updated range of services, including restrooms, changing rooms, storage facilities, and a reception area, along with a deck cafe. Its architectural design is aimed at blending seamlessly with the urban landscape, ensuring the complex harmoniously integrates with the city.

Following the completion of the project draft and its initial approval, requisite sectoral assessments will be sought, and a one-month public feedback period will be initiated to allow for objections to be raised. The documentation is already available for public review in the Official Gazette of the Province (BOP) of Santa Cruz de Tenerife. Subsequently, the tender process will commence for the project implementation, with a budget of 6.3 million euros and an estimated construction period of 21 months.

The Cabildo, in collaboration with the Sports department, has established a monitoring committee for the project alongside the Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council and the Port Authority, with a meeting scheduled with Gestur for the upcoming week.

Vice President of the island, Lope Afonso, commented that “the new Cidemat is on its way to becoming a reality, enabling Tenerife to recover vital facilities for the advancement of aquatic sports, as well as technical training and competitive events.”

Afonso affirmed, “We are witnessing the transformation of this sports infrastructure, which will enhance the platform space for sports equipment, contributing to better shoreline protection and concurrently fostering a harmonious coexistence with the city.”

Minister of Sports, Yolanda Moliné, emphasised, “This marks another milestone in the commitment we made at the beginning of our term after the closure of this facility in 2020. We aim for Tenerife to embrace its waterfront living. Santa Cruz and Tenerife will soon reclaim their Cidemat, a facility that was unjustly abandoned.”
