The initiation of works on the initial 100% environmentally friendly road in the Canary Islands is set for this month, as confirmed yesterday by Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council’s Infrastructure Councillor, Javier Rivero.

The project will transform Francisco La Roche Avenue, more commonly referred to as Anaga Avenue, into a road sustained entirely by renewable energy, featuring a dedicated lane for bicycles and personal mobility devices.

The award for the project was granted yesterday, during the Government Board meeting, to the company Conservación, Asfalto y Construction, SA (Conacon), for a sum of 1.4 million Euros.

Mayor José Manuel Bermúdez underscored yesterday that “the tender for the construction of the 100% sustainable street, set to span eight months, will be tied to the initiation of phase I of the comprehensive revitalisation project of the entire pedestrian zone of the mentioned coastal thoroughfare in the capital, coupled with the establishment of a segregated lane for bicycles and scooters that will enhance the city’s environmental and aesthetic appeal,” he expressed.

In addition, the Infrastructure Mayor specified that the investment totals 1,437 million Euros and the endeavours will involve “the installation of a renewable energy facility in the parking lot of the maritime park, through an array of photovoltaic panels on nine marquee modules that will cover 180 parking spaces.”

12 ELECTRIC VEHICLE CHARGING STATIONS

“Consequently,” he elaborates, “six outdoor recharge stations will be established for vehicles, facilitating a total of twelve charging stations, encompassing semi-rapid and rapid options, which will deliver a peak power of 477 kilowatts, ideally under favourable weather conditions.”

Likewise, the mayor mentioned that “the energy generating installation will cover the power needs of 5 public lighting panels and 5 traffic light signal control panels, precisely situated in the vicinity of the maritime park parking area and the former Jet Foil train station.”
