The Municipality of La Laguna in collaboration with the Department of Works and Infrastructure, is set to enhance the accessibility conditions and pavement quality of over fifty streets located across various areas of the city. This project, with a budget allocation of 3,140,493 euros, has undergone a public tender process.

The Mayor of La Laguna, Luis Yeray Gutiérrez, elucidated that, “the planned works have been divided into three distinct lots, segmented by zones, and each phase is estimated to take around three months.” The Mayor also detailed that the enhancements will encompass the urban centres of San Miguel de Chimisay, La Cuesta, Taco, Los Majuelos, Las Mantecas, San Jerónimo and San Luis Gonzaga.

Furthermore, the Works and Infrastructure Councillor, Ángel Chinea, disclosed that, “the corresponding signage work will commence in the middle of the following week, initiating ground works thereafter and notifying residents in the vicinity of potential traffic alterations.”

Chinea delineated the array of planned works, emphasising the replacement of tiles, curbs, and asphalt surfaces on the streets, the installation of new pedestrian crossings tailored for individuals with limited mobility, the improvement of sidewalks, refurbishment of waste receptacles, placement of bio-healthy equipment, renewal of signage, replacement of bars and gutters, adjustment and reinforcement of manhole covers, and application of a fresh surface layer.

The first lot encompasses the sectors of San Miguel de Chimisay, San Jerónimo, and San Luis Gonzaga, encompassing 23 streets and three adjacent squares. The second batch is focused on La Cuesta, Taco, and Las Mantecas, impacting 23 streets, three squares, and other public areas. The third and final lot is centred around the heart of Los Majuelos, covering seven streets and four plazas.

Chinea emphasised that the primary objective of these endeavours is to enhance the internal connectivity of the city through improved accessibility, road and pedestrian safety on the streets, while also considering aspects such as social and commercial integration or the enhancement of bio-healthy facilities aimed at fostering a better quality of life and encouraging a culture of physical activity.
