SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, March 28 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Forum for the Advancement of Tenerife, a newly formed association of businessmen aimed at highlighting the growth potential of the island within the archipelago, recently convened a meeting. The session focused on addressing the challenges faced by many workers in securing housing in close proximity to their workplaces.

In response to this pressing issue, the Forum has outlined key priorities which include expediting the completion of housing developments, streamlining urban planning processes, reviewing legislation concerning vacation homes, as well as tackling issues like delayed payments, unlawful property occupations, and the provision of affordable rental accommodation. To tackle these challenges effectively, the Forum has established a task force comprising experts to drive towards actionable solutions.

Noteworthy attendees at the meeting included the Deputy President of the Canary Islands Government, Manuel Domínguez, who discussed the proposed holiday housing legislation and its potential to ameliorate the current housing crisis. He also hinted at forthcoming measures aimed at making public land more accessible to businesses for residential construction to alleviate the prevailing housing shortage.

Another critical concern for the Forum, highlighted by Manuel Domínguez, is the struggle that companies face in recruiting skilled personnel in specific sectors. In response, various objectives have been outlined to align training programs with industry demands, enhance industry involvement in vocational training, boost productivity to improve the wage-to-income ratio, diversify the economy across sectors, enhance labour mobility, and emphasise the role of universities in this comprehensive strategy.

To address these challenges and more, the association will foster analysis and debate in collaboration with other economic and social stakeholders, as well as engage with public authorities on matters deemed crucial to reducing economic and social disparities hampering development.

Additionally, the association announced the appointment of its Board of Directors during the meeting, with Jesús Francisco Gómez elected as Chairman. Serving alongside the president will be Carmen Garcia (Vice President in charge of Talent and living conditions), Antonio Armas (Vice President for Infrastructure), Enrique Alfonso (Vice President for Innovation), and Arturo Escuder (Treasurer).

A website has been launched at https://foroprogresotenerife.org/ for detailed information about the Forum.
