Starting from today, Guía de Isora will transform the streets of its historic centre into a vast open-air museum, a one-of-a-kind experience in Spain. The 13th edition of the Easter celebration this year will showcase a total of 25 floral and contemporary art pieces spread across alleys, corners, nooks, and squares of the town. Visitors can explore these artworks from today – the large-scale installations will be set up along the processional route early in the morning – until Easter Sunday.
In addition to admiring the pieces inspired by the Passion of Christ and crafted with flowers or plant materials, visitors can also indulge in four days of parallel activities including theatre, music, dance, exhibitions, and even a photography contest open to both amateurs and professionals. This event beautifully harmonises architecture, tradition, and artistic creativity.
According to Ana Dorta, the mayor of Guía de Isora, Easter represents an “extraordinary project and a point of reference not just within the municipality but also at the island, regional, national, and international levels.”
She believes that this event, which has the most significant external impact during the Holy Week in Isora, helps showcase “the virtues, wealth, and uniqueness of the southern region of Tenerife.” The councilor especially commends the work of master florist Carlos Curbelo as the architect, instigator, and director of this project.
On the other hand, Carlos Javier Álvarez, the first deputy mayor and Councilor for Culture, emphasises that one of the key aims of these temporary art installations unveiled starting from this Thursday is to underscore “the fleeting nature of life and death”, highlighting the unparalleled nature of this exhibition on a national level.
RENOWNED ARTISTS FROM AROUND THE COUNTRY
The artist teams include notable national figures such as Juan Chamorro, María del Carmen Barreña, and Jordi Abelló. However, the Association of Carpet Makers of La Orotava, several local artists, various community groups, and students from the Alcalá Secondary Education Institute will also take part in this edition.
Over the past few days, everyone has been working tirelessly on their creations to ensure that the exhibition is unveiled this morning, welcoming visitors to every corner of the historic centre of Isorano.
