Following a tragic incident, a 41-year-old man lost his life on Wednesday after accidentally falling into the sea amidst puddles in the southern region of Tenerife. The unfortunate event transpired at approximately 10:30 a.m., prompting the Emergency and Security Coordinating Center of the Government of the Canary Islands (CECOES) 1-1-2 to receive an alert regarding a person who had fallen into the sea in Los Gigantes, located in the municipality of Santiago del Teide.
In response, emergency services were promptly mobilised. Rescuers from the GES helicopter swiftly arrived at the scene, successfully retrieving two individuals in distress from the water and transferring them to the helisurface of the Adeje volunteer firefighters.
Upon reaching dry land, medical personnel from the Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC) attended to the casualties. Unfortunately, one of the individuals was found to be in cardiorespiratory arrest, and despite resuscitation efforts, the medical team could not revive him, confirming his tragic passing. The other rescued individual did not require further medical attention.
The Adeje volunteer firefighters also assisted in preparing the helisurface for the helicopter’s landing.
Local Police collaborated with emergency responders, and the Civil Guard oversaw the necessary procedures.
